They're Back and More Generous Than Ever: Red Bull's Interns are Back on Wayne State's Campus

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

DETROIT-- The sun is out, students are halfway through their semester, and Red Bull is on the move to track down students during their time of exhaustion and studying.

Hunting down these student down are Sam Morin (Left) and Marco Althoen (Right) who have been interning for Red Bull for a few months now. With a mission to give free cans of Red Bull out to college students and promote the brand by wearing Red Bull gear, including a Red Bull shaped backpack.

I decided to follow the two Wayne State University student marketeers around for about an hour, watching how they interacted with students, faculty, and staff. I asked them a few questions surrounding their internship, especially discussing how they found their internship.

"We found it on Handshake, within applications" Sam said.

Marco agreed and stated, "I also found this internship through Handshake while looking for summer internships."

Both were looking for internships and job opportunities and happened to stumble upon this internship. The two genuinely enjoy their time with the company and did not have anything negative to say about the experience.

The official student marketeer of Red Bull originated in 1987, and has continued promoting their energy drink through students within their college campuses. According to Red Bull's website, "Today we have more than 4,000 student marketeers around the globe generating awareness and excitement or the product and brand."

"Marco stated, "We typically receive 12 packs of 24 cans and are tasked with handing them out from a 3-5 hour time frame." - Marco

Sam and Marco are a few in the many students who have received this opportunity, and believe this company really understands the student perspective and lifestyle.

Marco states, "We have a really cool boss who takes care of us."

They said they typically carry around 24 cans of Red Bull in each backpack, which can be heavy at times. Once they run out of the cans, they are able to finish their workday with a stylish ride home, the Red Bull mini cooper. A celebrity itself within the streets of Detroit.

I asked them If I could take a peak at their hot ride and they agreed. I was honestly quite jealous of this internship...paid per hour, free exercise, making people happy, and the ability to ride around Detroit in a stylist vehicle for a one-year internship as a college student? I would say this is a pretty great and practical idea to make some quick cash and create great connections.

A lot of students were extremely excited. Even if the student had a drink in their hand, they accepted either Sam or Marco's offer of a free cold can of Red Bull. Many were extremely thankful, especially the student above. She seemed shocked that she was receiving something for free and did not have to complete a survey or do anything in order to receive it.

I decided to interview a Wayne State University college student who had received a Red Bull can for free, she wished to remain anonymous. Pictured right (female) stated, "I am excited they gave it for me for free today, since I did not have a drink."

I asked her a few questions regarding Red Bull and the idea of receiving free energy drinks on campus. She stated that she has never had Red Bull and is excited to try it. Students on campus are tired and exhausted, they are right in the middle of their semester and exams and spring break are right around the corner.

Red Bull's idea of hiring college students for college students is a brilliant idea in my opinion. Nothing is better than having someone who is in the same boat provide you with free items while also promoting their brand name in support of students. With the upsurge in energy drinks in recent years, Red Bull has stayed on top of the energy drink game, with promotional ideas such as this.

Marco States, "We are actively looking for more students to do what we are doing, so if anyone is interested please let us know." I have provided the link below in case anyone is interested in applying or finding out more about the internship. Marco and Sam recommend the internship, so if you are looking for a great opportunity I would take advantage of the link below.
